These goregous, white crocus are quite courageous, often coming up while the snow is still on the ground! The winter-defying flowers of the 'Jeanne d'Arc' Crocus have glossy pure white petals with a slight hint of purple at the base which surround beaming yellow stamen in the center. They stand quite upright and are great for naturalizing in grassy lawn areas or woodlands.

  • Crocus like a sunny location, but will tolerate partial shade.
  • Crocus require well-drained soil with organic matter. Amend soil with organic matter such as compost, manure or peat humus.
  • Space your crocus 2-4” apart, or plant together in one large hole leaving a small amount of space between bulbs so they are not touching.
  • Crocus don’t always have a noticeably pointed end. Plant your crocus 2-3” deep, with the flattest side touching the earth. If you are unsure which side is up, plant the crocus corms on their side, they will straighten out to find the sun.
  • Fertilize at planting with Hi Yield Bulb Food or for organic gardening use Bulb-Tone. Apply fertilizer at least 2” below the bottom of the bulbs so that the roots will get the most benefit from the fertilizer.
  • Water the area the crocus have been planted immediately after. Additional water in fall and winter is not necessary; bulbs prefer to be kept dry when dormant.
  • Apply a 2” layer of mulch in late fall.

Beautiful but not deer resistant

Very beautiful but these seem to attract deer. The ruby giant seems to be less preferred of the two.
The flower size was larger with jeanne than ruby.

A Magnificent Tall and Proud Bloom

Rating:
review-star review-star review-star review-star review-star
Pros:
  • Handles Planting Mistakes
  • Beautiful Tall Bloom
Cons:
  • Packaging has only a product number
While I explain in my reviews of Yellow and Purple how I planted these all too deep, these White came up as expected, after the Yellow, and my Purple was unexpected but nicely last to bloom.
These first bloom at a normal crocus height, and continue to grow taller. Some of them are as tall as short Tulips. I really like them, and a few of them are double blooming.
The only con I have is that the packaging has difficult to see information and only the product number, no color, nothing else. I got multiple packs so it was important to me to know what was what while I was planting, so I had to create a workaround to get my planting plan to work correctly.

Jeanne d' Arc Giant Crocus - just planted

Pros:
Cons:
The bulbs took longer than expected to receive unfortunately, but all arrived clearly labeled and in great condition. These flowers looked so beautiful in the photos and I am hopeful that they will all bloom as expected. They were fairly reasonably priced and should blend with my other Jeanne d' Arc Crocus - which are the normal size, and make an interesting collection.
