Bartzella Double Peony has huge double yellow blooms. These robust plants stand up even after heavy rain. Staking is not required to keep the blooms healthy and upright. Bartzella not only has large blooms, it also blooms for a long period, up to 6 weeks. Yellow double blooms appear in May and June, each bloom can grow up to 9" across. Bartzella Itoh Peony emits a lovely sweet fragrance in addition to the unique yellow color.

What is an Itoh Hybrid Peony?

Itoh Hybrid Peonies often also referred to as Intersectional Peonies are a cross between herbaceous peonies and tree peonies. Hybridized in 1948 by Japanese horticulturalist Dr. Toichi Itoh. Itoh hybrids share characteristics from both types of peonies, strong sturdy stems from the tree peonies, and lush green lobed foliage from the herbaceous peonies.

Planting Advice

  • Performs best in full sun to partial shade
  • Fertilize in spring or early summer with fertilizer that contains low levels of nitrogen such as Dr. Earth Spectacular Bulb Food
  • Peonies may take several seasons to bloom, but these long lasting perennial classics are worth the wait
  • Fast growing to 2.5'-3'
  • Peonies are sensitive to planting depth, plant with crown slightly below the soil level
  • Peonies do not favor being transplanted, choose a location it can stay in for a long time.

I ordered two and received them promptly. They were good quality and I could see the eyes breaking ground this week. I will be watching their progress this year and hope to possibly see a bloom next year.

The case bare root arrived in great condition. I planted it immediately. It took 3 years to get my first bloom, but WOW totally worth it. Huge beautiful yellow blooms as big as my husband's hand. Wish I could attach a picture. They are so pretty and smell so sweet.

I ordered several of these late in the winter on clearance and was worried how they would do since they should have been planted in the fall. At the beginning of March they are all sprouting little red leaves and appear to be healthy. I can’t wait to see how they look in a few years when they start to bloom!
