This Giant Allium truly lives up to its name and is truly a marvel in the garden with its gorgeous purple blooms sometimes reaching 6" in diameter and stands up to 39" tall! The mammoth round flowers heads are extremely unique and even hold their petals long after the flower has finished blooming, making it very popular among crafters who use them in dried floral arrangements!

  • Allium require full sun for the best blooms
  • Well drained soil is a must for allium bulbs
  • In heavy, clay and poorly drained soils amend the soil prior to planting. Amend your existing soil by incorporating a combination of top soil, compost, manure, and leaf mold.
  • Fertilize at planting with Hi Yield Bulb Food or for organic gardening use Bulb-Tone. Apply fertilizer at least 3” below the bottom of the bulbs so that the roots will get the most benefit from the fertilizer.
  • Plant allium bulbs 4-6” deep, with the old roots of the bulb touching the earth, the pointed end should be facing the sky.
  • Spacing will vary based on variety, refer to the Allium packaging for specifics. Plant allium in clusters or space throughout the garden for a neat geometric design element.
  • Immediately after planting, water the allium planting area. This helps to eliminate air pockets. After the initial planting bulbs do not require additional watering in fall or winter and prefer to be kept dry.
  • Apply a 2” layer of mulch in late fall.

Cons:
  • chipmunks &rabbits do like to eat
Gorgeous Large bulb flowers 3 feet tall beautiful full delicate flowers that lasted 3 weeks before rain destroyed them. So happy I ordered them as moles ate the allium in my pachysandra bed.
Nice transition from yellow daffodils to light purple.

I see them as my “Dr Seuss looking flowers” and are a must to add a little something unique. I have them between my hosta, coral bells and variegated iris for added interest. All three came up beautifully!

First time planting Allium. Not as robust as Daffodil bulbs. Hoping they do as well. Hard to tell top and bottom at first.
