Showy cherry red blooms appear in late spring on the Charles Burgess Peony. This compact peony reaches its maximum height at 3' tall with a similar spread. Its velvety red petals are highlighted by golden staminodes. The rich, dark green foliage is attractive year round on Charles Burgess peony. When received the peony root eyes were over-grown. In order to protect the eyes from the sun, I created a tent of burlap around the peony. The exposed eyes slowly hardened and greened up. The burlap was removed. It was able to tolerate the sun and grew nicely.
