Proteus Double Flowering Clematis

When this baby girl arrived, I was so bummed. I've wanted a clematis for many years and this is the first time I've actually pulled the trigger. She came looking like a few twigs and with the saddest, yellowing, limp leaves you've ever seen, her plug soil was all over the box and she barely had any left with her... I called HBF unsure if she would make it. They advised to cut off the unhealthy growth- i did so reluctantly. HOWEVER, after about 3 days under my grow lights and with a bit of water/ into a mesh seedling pot (4" diameter) she produced new leaves. After about a week she was already 6-8" long and now that I am hardening her off for garden time, she is a beautiful 18" vine that is slowly turning brown to a wood stem!

So happy! Can't wait to see the blooms she makes.

The plant has grown well, looking healthy. Just waiting for it to bloom now.

Does not seem to doing well. The other one I ordered has a vine about 4 feet long and this one is only three or four inches.

I can’t wait to have this add color and texture to my garden!
