Growing up, there was nothing more reminiscent of spring than the smell of lilacs growing in our yard. The Common Purple Lilac Pre-Potted Shrub is one of the most widely used and most recognizable varieties. Highly fragrant, cone-shaped clusters of purple flowers appear in mid to late spring and are perfect for cutting in vases to fill your home with the sweet aroma!
The Common Purple Lilac stands tall, reaching up to 15' and 12' wide, perfect as a specimen plant in your full-sun garden or to create a natural privacy hedge. Lilacs do best in full sun but can tolerate some light shade. Plant in well-drained soil, making sure the roots do not sit in water. Once the blooms have finished for the season, prune back about 1/3 of the oldest growth within 2 weeks. Next year's new buds will start to set during the summer months, so avoid pruning any later than 2 weeks after current blooms are completed.
Plant the Common Purple Lilac Pre-Potted Shrub and enjoy the sweet fragrance each spring!
