I bought 18 sets of the Jersey Giant Asparagus 2 year old roots. I received them in good order already sprouting and with long healthy mature roots systems and crowns. I put them in compost tea for a couple days before planting and within 3 weeks I was cutting the growth from more that 10 of the plants on a recurring weekly basis. They're small in girth but packed with flavor which is totally welcome and unexpected since they're far from being established. Would recommend Holland Bulb stock to anyone.
Asparagus came well packaged. They were just about to dry up. I planted them within 24-48 hours of receiving them. I used that time to prepare the garden with manure and nutrient dense soil. Within two weeks they were establishing themselves. Stalks are thin and sparse after a 4-6 weeks of growth, but are around 2 ft in height. There were two or three roots that didn’t grow well, I’ve added organic fertilizers to see if they’re salvageable. After the initial two weeks, 80% of the roots adapted nicely with little effort and minimal maintenance. Price was average. Quality was below expectations, as I was expecting 100% spawns from root sources verses seed sources. I purchased two types, but I can’t tell one from the other so far. We shall see how they develop in the next few years. I’m going to recommend getting locally grown roots rather than investing in this company.
Everything is growing and looks good for just being planted!
